My name is Brandon Kahan and I’m the AED Specialist for Los Angeles, Ventura Counties, and Central California. I've been with Cardiac Science – the only company with a dedicated team of highly trained, consultative local AED experts throughout the US – for two years now.

The most satisfying part of my job?
When I learn a Powerheart AED – there because I sold it – saved one of the more than one million lives worldwide that are otherwise lost each year.

For several reasons, I consider the City of Inglewood's Public Access Defibrillation (PAD) program my most rewarding deployment. Prior to our meeting, the City had zero AEDs and had zero plans of having AEDs.

Working with the American Red Cross of Greater Los Angeles we met several key influencers in the city to educate them about sudden cardiac arrest (SCA) and AEDs. (Click for photos of an event we co-hosted.) As a result, Inglewood purchased 43 Powerheart G3 Plus Automatic defibrillators for City Hall, public libraries, police vehicles, and more. This is only the start! The city plans to cover all police vehicles and will encourage private companies and venues to join the program.

On a personal note...
I was born, raised, and still reside in Los Angeles. I enjoy bringing defibrillation to my hometown and, since SCA is not a 9-5 tragedy, I am an active member of the Los Angeles Chapters of BICEPP and National Safety Council. I am also a proud sponsor of Los Angeles American Heart Association Heart Ball. We need every opportunity to spread the word far and wide about SCA and the life-saving possibilities made available with publicly accessible defibrillation.
