Hypertrophic Cardiomyopathy

An enlargement/thickening of one or more of the heart walls resulting in an increased risk for lethal ventricular arrhythmias. This is believed to have a genetic origin and is largely responsible for the rare incidence of sudden cardiac death in young athletes.
