Cardiac Science Deploys 850 AEDs across American Electric Power Facilities

Another major energy company commits to heart safety with large AED order
August 5, 2008
BUSINESS WIRE

BOTHELL, Wash. -- Cardiac Science is deploying automated external defibrillators (AEDs) to create heartsafe work environments at American Electric Power locations in 12 U.S. states. The company already installed 500 Powerheart(R) AEDs from Cardiac Science and will deploy an additional 350 AEDs through 2008. Cardiac Science is a global leader in advanced cardiac diagnosis, resuscitation, rehabilitation, and informatics products.

American Electric Power joins a growing roster of companies that protect employees with accessible defibrillation. Other companies in the energy sector using Cardiac Science defibrillators include ConocoPhillips, ExxonMobil, El Paso Corporation, Georgia Power, General Electric, and Pennsylvania Power & Light.

John Hinson, Cardiac Science president and chief executive officer, said, "AED deployments of this magnitude are becoming more common as companies are becoming aware that their emergency preparedness programs are incomplete without accessible defibrillation."

Cardiac Science's patented Rescue Ready(R) technology self-checks all main components (battery, pads, and electronics) daily to ensure the AED is ready when needed. Patented RHYTHMx(TM) software detects abnormal heart rhythms, determines if they are life threatening and, when appropriate, facilitates delivery of a life-saving shock.

Cardiac Science offers AED programs to help customers comply with regulatory requirements and logistics concerning AED placement and usage. They deliver a number of certified training programs, including those from the AHA (American Heart Association), ASHI (American Safety and Health Institute), ARC (American Red Cross), as well as a number of programs compliant with the ERC (European Resuscitation Council).

LifeServers Inc., a national Cardiac Science Preferred Gold Partner located in Columbus, Ohio with associates across the country, originated the sale.
