The New Mexico State Police Department was presented with a gracious $15,000 donation from Heart Hospital of New Mexico to help combat sudden cardiac arrest (SCA). The donated funds will be used to purchase Cardiac Science® Powerheart® G3 AEDs. “Every minute delayed decreases the persons chance of survival by ten percent if they do not reach treatment,” said Jay Tiongson, MD, Cardiologist of Heart Hospital of New Mexico.
According to the New Mexico Department of Public Safety, State Police will first equip officers with AEDs in rural areas, where waiting time for EMTs to arrive becomes a critical factor in whether a heart attack victim lives or dies.
“As a resident of Albuquerque, New Mexico, I’m very proud that the Department of Public Safety and the New Mexico State Police have approximately 220 automated external defibrillators deployed across the state. This helps keep every New Mexican safer from sudden cardiac arrest, the number one cause of death in the United States. Cardiac Science is proud to play a part in this along with our partners EMS Aspects and The Heart Hospital of New Mexico Foundation,” stated Laurence Saban, Regional Sales Manager of Cardiac Science.
