- Sgt. Scott A. Simon, Nevada Highway Patrol, Las Vegas. Sgt. Simon has been a Nevada State Trooper for 23 years and worked as a PIO for Nevada Highway Patrol. He is also the president of Nevada Project Heartbeat. Sgt. Simon was integrally involved with the research, funding, selection, and deployment of the Nevada Highway Patrol AED program. Nevada Highway Patrol currently has 210 vehicles outfitted with AEDs and is working to outfit the entire fleet of 391 vehicles. Sgt. Simon is also an EMT and oversees CPR/AED training for officers in the patrol..
- Maureen O’Connor, Emergency Medical Technician, Program Manager – Public Access Defibrillation (PAD), San Diego Project Heart Beat (SDPHB). Maureen O’Connor has been in the field of emergency services for eighteen years. She has been involved in the San Diego Project Heart Beat (SDPHB) Public Access Defibrillation (PAD) Program since 2001 and currently acts as the SDPHB Program Manager. SDPHB is one of our nation’s first and most successful defibrillation programs, saving 76 lives (and families) to date. SDPHB received the 2009 Heart Safe Community Award PAD Program, Large Community from the International Association of Fire Chiefs (IAFC) and the Sudden Cardiac Arrest Association’s 2009 SCAA Public Service Award.
