Today we welcome Steve Jelfs, Cardiac Science’s International Clinical Manager for Defibrillation, with news from his global AED training in Portugal. Thanks, Steve!
I just spent a week in southern Europe with our local distributor partner, EKG Medical, and Cardiac Science Area Manager Jacob Kleberg to present seven top-class AED workshops in Oporto, Viseu, Liegia, Lisbon, and Faro for the Portuguese Red Cross (PRC).
These were comprehensive AED training sessions. We covered the anatomy and physiology of the heart, the science of sudden cardiac arrest, and the proper use of the Cardiac Science defibrillator. More than 500 instructors and volunteers attended the sessions to learn how an AED can save the life of a cardiac arrest victim.
Coincidentally, a few days before the programme, Director-General of the Portuguese Red Cross Luis Neva, received an important letter from IMMEM (the body responsible for implementing the national Portuguese AED plan). It certified the PRC to carry out AED training and to use AEDs during the First Aid events covered by the organization’s volunteers.
Cardiac Science is the first AED manufacturer to offer such a high-level of support and expertise to the Portuguese Red Cross. Our relationship with the PRC adds another aspect to our strengthening portfolio of global strategic alliances with the Red Cross, one of the best known brands in the field of humanitarian action and emergency response.
EKG Medical has been swamped with enquiries following the well-received AED training workshops. Expect more good news from Cardiac Science and the Portuguese Red Cross.
