The earliest Cardiac Science company was founded in 1913 by F.F. Burdick and F.A. Anderson. The Burdick Company, as it was then known, developed the first infrared lamp for medical use. The company went on to become a pioneer in electrocardiograph technology and the preferred ECG brand among clinicians – a position Burdick, now a Cardiac Science brand, still holds today.
Today’s Burdick ECG products are ready to connect to EMR and HIS systems. In fact, every Burdick Atria we sell has connectivity built in as a standard feature.
Engineer Todd LeRoy found this in the Milton Courier and passed it along. It’s quite fun.
It reads,
“The following appeared in the September 9, 1954 issue of the Milton and Milton Junction Courier.
Upon invitation from the Smithsonian Institution, the Burdick Corporation of Milton, Wis., has presented an exhibit depicting the workings of a modern electrocardiogaph.
The exhibit contains Burdick’s model EK-2 electrocardiogaph enclosed in plexiglass instead of metal so that all controls and components can be viewed from any angle with the aid of a mirror back-drop. Designed and constructed by W.L. Stensgaard and Associates, the exhibit also shows diagramatically how an electrocardiogaph is used on a patient.
This will be part of a new Smithsonian exhibit on the evolution of the electrocardiogaph, prepared for first viewing during the World Congress of Cardiology in Washington DC. It will remain in the Smithsonian Institution as a permanent exhibit.”
