We’re proud to co-sponsor this weekend’s MedAxiom Spring Conference 2009: Members Only April 17 – April 19, 2009.
I found this few-month-old MedAxiom Featured Partner Questions and Answers interview. Enjoy the read.

Cardiac Science develops, manufactures, and markets a family of advanced diagnostic and therapeutic cardiology devices and systems, including automated external defibrillators (AED), electrocardiograph devices (ECG), cardiac stress systems and treadmills, Holter monitoring systems, hospital defibrillators, cardiac rehabilitation telemetry systems, and cardiology data management systems (informatics) that connect with hospital information (HIS), electronic medical record (EMR), and other information systems.
Q: Why has Cardiac Science chosen MedAxiom as a strategic partner?
A: Our business focus is on cardiology, and MedAxiom represents cardiology leaders, as well as a significant number of cardiology practices. MedAxiom challenges its members to define and implement best practices, a critical topic at a time when reimbursement trends are focused on pay-for-performance. It’s vital for Cardiac Science to know MedAxiom members’ views on these and other critical issues so that we can continue to support their work.
Q: How does Cardiac Science currently interact with cardiology practices?
A: We offer a complete portfolio of noninvasive cardiology and defibrillation products, which we sell through a distribution network. Our HeartCentrix informatics software makes it possible for practices to flow data from diagnostic devices directly into an electronics health records system. In bringing these products to market, we’ve evolved well beyond the traditional role of product sales and now act in more of a consulting role. We help cardiology practices implement practical solutions and achieve greater efficiency.
Q: What Cardiac Science products are used by the practices?
A: They use our Burdick and Quinton branded ECG carts, stress systems, Holter monitoring, and Powerheart automated external defibrillation (AED) equipment, as well as the ECG data management solutions we sell under the HeartCentrix brand. They are also purchasing our ECG electrodes, paper, and other accessories that can maximize device performance.
Q: What differentiates Cardiac Science from other organizations?
A: Cardiac Science focuses exclusively on noninvasive ways to manage heart disease. It’s been our work for nearly a century. We invented the modern stress test, the single-channel interpretive ECG, and the first fully automatic bedside defibrillator. Today, we design all our equipment with connectivity in mind, integrating with hospital information, electronic medical records, and other information systems.
Q: How do you intend to add more value for Cardiac Science customers over the next 12 months?
A: We’re improving and expanding our industry-leading connectivity solutions so practitioners can take full advantage of the extensive diagnostic data gathered by our Burdick and Quinton stress, Holter, ECG, and other devices. We are committed to training our sales force and our distributor network so you can always consult with a trained representative who can answer questions and help you get the most out of our products and systems. We will continue to support the MedAxiom strategic partnership, and to develop our relationships with MedAxiom members.
Q: What new products or services can we expect to see released in the next 12 months?
A: In the fall of 2008, Cardiac Science will release our next generation stress systems, Q-Stress 4.0, HeartStride 4.0, and our cardiac rehabilitation management system, Q-Tel RMS 3.1. We have further enhancements to our product portfolio planned for 2009 and will provide more details as we get closer to their release.
Q: What are your long-term goals in serving the cardiology practice arena?
A: We want Cardiac Science to be the company people think of first for cardiology products, supplies, and services. And, to do this, we need to hear what’s important to cardiologists so that we can plan to meet their long-term needs. We look forward to engaging with MedAxiom as a group and with MedAxiom’s individual members to discuss issues of mutual concern.
Q: How should the MedAxiom practices get in contact with Cardiac Science about the company or its products?
A: Please feel free to contact Bob Atkins, Director of National Accounts, at 440.840.4474 or RAtkins@cardiacscience.com; or call your local Cardiac Science Sales Representative.
