"The student would have expired"

On February 11th 2009, I had to use the AED machine on a student. I was told by the student's mother that the doctor explained to her that if I did not use the AED as fast as I did that her daughter would have died.

In fact, the MD had said to Mrs. L. that it was because I used the AED as quickly as I did that her daughter's life was spared. If it had been "1" second later the student would have expired as per her MD.

The type of AED that I used was the Powerheart AED G3 model. The great thing about this model is that it will not deploy a shock unless it is necessary. It was extremely easy to use and I am confident that anyone can use it safely.

Whenever there is a death of a child, a parent should never be tormented by the fact that a school had or did not have an AED, or that their son or daughter might have been alive today if someone had arrived to the scene prior to EMS arriving.

When every second counts an AED is truly a "life saver" and every school should have one.
